Discovery of Novel Bacterial Phage Defense Systems Using Component Modularity Networks

Researchers exploited the modular architecture of bacterial phage defense systems to identify new antiviral mechanisms in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. By tracking defense-associated components across different genetic contexts, they uncovered a large network of candidate systems. Experimental validation confirmed three new defenses, providing a powerful strategy for discovering bacterial immunity mechanisms.
