Acinetobacter Distribution, Antibiotic Resistance Associations, and Genomic Diversity Across an Urban Wastewater Network

Researchers monitored Acinetobacter across hospital, student residence, and wastewater treatment plant locations using 300 wastewater samples collected over 18 months. The genus was consistently abundant, declined substantially during treatment, yet persisted in effluent. Genomic analyses revealed lineage diversity, multiple OXA beta-lactamase variants, and significant associations with antibiotic resistance gene abundance.
